About the Profession

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy is a healthcare profession focused on helping people function more safely and independently in everyday life. It supports individuals to manage daily activities, maintain participation in meaningful routines, and reduce barriers that affect comfort, confidence, and wellbeing.

Our occupational therapists assess the person, their goals, and their environment to provide practical, tailored solutions. This may include strategies, equipment, environmental recommendations, and support to improve daily living at home and in the community.

Conditions We Treat

What conditions do Occupational Therapists help with?

Our occupational therapists provide private support for people seeking practical, personalised help to improve safety, comfort, and independence in everyday life. Whether you need assistance after surgery or injury, support to manage changes in function, or advice on equipment and strategies for daily living, we tailor our service to your goals, environment, and stage of recovery.

Occupational Therapy may assist with:

  • Daily living tasks such as showering, dressing, cooking, and household routines
  • Reduced confidence or independence at home
  • Recovery after surgery, injury, or hospitalisation
  • Fatigue management and coping with reduced physical capacity
  • Falls prevention and home safety concerns
  • Changes in mobility, coordination, or hand function
  • Cognitive changes affecting routine tasks and organisation
  • Assistive equipment recommendations
  • Home environment assessment and practical problem-solving
  • Support to maintain independence, participation, and quality of life

Access & Funding

How do I get Occupational Therapy?

There are a number of ways to access Occupational Therapy, depending on your needs, eligibility, and funding pathway. Some clients access services through approved funding programs, while others choose to book privately. If you are unsure which option is right for you, our team can help guide you.

  • NDIS

If you are self-managed or plan-managed, you may be able to access Occupational Therapy through your NDIS funding, depending on your plan and goals. We can work with you, your family, and support team to provide therapy, assessments, equipment recommendations, and functional support aligned with your needs.

  • Home Care Package

Older adults may be able to access Occupational Therapy through My Aged Care and the Support at Home program after assessment and approval. If you already have Support at Home funding in place, you can ask your home care provider to arrange Occupational Therapy with our team.

  • Medicare

Some clients may be able to access Occupational Therapy with a referral from their GP under a chronic condition management plan. As Medicare rebates for allied health are limited, community-based appointments may include a gap payment in addition to the rebate.

  • Private Health

You can book Occupational Therapy with us directly, with no GP referral required in most cases. Depending on your policy, you may also be eligible to claim a rebate through your private health insurer.

  • Other Funding

Occupational Therapy is also available through DVA, WorkCover, TAC, and other approved funding pathways, subject to confirmation from our team.

Funding & Support

Private

Fuller Life Australia offers personalised private services across physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and psychology for people seeking flexible support at home, in the community, or via telehealth where appropriate. Our team works closely with each client to provide practical, goal-focused care tailored to their individual needs and circumstances.

What is paying privately?

Paying privately means you choose to access services yourself, rather than through a government-funded program. This gives you the flexibility to book the support you need, when you need it, without waiting for funding approval or meeting specific program criteria.

Who is this for?

  • want to get started without waiting for government funding
  • are not eligible for programs such as the NDIS, Medicare, or aged care funding
  • prefer greater flexibility around appointments and service options
  • would like additional support beyond what funded services provide
  • may be able to claim through private health insurance, depending on their cover

How Fuller Life helps

  • tailored assessment, therapy, and support
  • home, community, and telehealth service delivery where suitable
  • short-term, ongoing, or review-based support options
  • clear documentation and official receipts for private health claiming where applicable
