About the Profession
What is Psychology?
Psychology is a healthcare profession focused on understanding thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and wellbeing. It supports people to manage challenges, improve mental health, build insight, and develop practical strategies to enhance daily functioning and quality of life.
Our psychologists provide personalised, evidence-informed support tailored to each individual's needs and goals. This may include assistance with anxiety, mood, stress, trauma, grief, adjustment, emotional regulation, behaviour, and other factors affecting wellbeing.
Conditions We Treat
What conditions do Psychologists help with?
Our psychologists support older adults across aged care settings, including residential aged care, to strengthen emotional wellbeing, adjustment, coping, and quality of life. Psychology can be helpful for the emotional and psychological challenges that may arise with ageing, declining health, life transitions, grief, loss, changing independence, and living in care.
Our psychologists may support older adults experiencing:
- Anxiety, stress, or excessive worry
- Low mood or depression
- Grief, bereavement, and loss
- Adjustment to ageing, illness, or changing independence
- Emotional distress associated with moving into or living in residential aged care
- Loneliness, withdrawal, or reduced confidence
- Difficulty coping with pain, physical decline, or changing daily function
- Behavioural or emotional changes affecting wellbeing and relationships
- Distress related to cognitive or memory changes
- Reduced motivation, resilience, or sense of purpose
- Support through major life changes and care transitions
- Psychological support to improve comfort, coping, and overall wellbeing in aged care environments
Access & Funding
How do I get Psychology?
There are a number of ways to access psychology, depending on your circumstances and the type of support you need. Some clients access services through approved funding pathways, while others choose to book privately. If you are unsure where to start, our team can help you understand your options.
NDIS
There are several ways to access psychology, depending on your needs, eligibility, and funding pathway. In some cases, you can book directly with us, while in others a referral, assessment, or approved funding may be required. If you are unsure which option applies to you, our team can help guide you.
Home Care Package
Older adults may be able to access psychology through My Aged Care and the Support at Home program following assessment and approval. If you already have Home Care Package or Support at Home funding, you can request to see us at any time via your home care provider.
Medicare
Some clients may be eligible to access psychology through a Mental Health Treatment Plan, with a referral arranged by their GP. Rebates may be available, however as our services are primarily delivered via telehealth or community-based arrangements, any gap payable will depend on the type and length of appointment.
Private Health
You can book privately with us directly, with no GP referral required in most cases. If eligible, you may also be able to claim through your private health insurer depending on your level of cover.
Other Funding
DVA and other approved funding pathways may be accepted by Fuller Life Australia following confirmation from our team.
Funding & Support
Aged Care
Fuller Life Australia provides mobile allied health services to older adults living in residential aged care. We work with residents, families, facility staff, and care teams to provide assessment, therapy, and practical recommendations that support safety, comfort, mobility, function, and quality of life.
What is Aged Care funding?
Aged care funding is Australian Government funding that helps eligible older people access care and support services. In residential aged care, this funding helps aged care homes provide accommodation, daily living support, clinical care, and other services based on each resident's assessed needs. Residential aged care funding is separate from the Support at Home program, which is for people living in their own homes.
Who can get funding?
- are 65 years or older
- are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person aged 50 years or older
- or are 50 years or older and homeless or at risk of homelessness
- have care needs that mean you can no longer manage safely or independently at home
- complete an aged care assessment through My Aged Care
- are assessed as needing residential aged care rather than home-based support
How Fuller Life helps
- Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and psychology within residential aged care
- Assessment and therapy to support mobility, strength, balance, function, and wellbeing
- Short-term or ongoing allied health support based on each resident's needs and goals
- Falls prevention, reconditioning, and recovery after illness or hospitalisation
- Seating, positioning, comfort, and support with everyday function
- Manual handling guidance and practical strategies to support safer care
- Working closely with residents, families, staff, and care teams
- Clear recommendations and communication to support ongoing care planning
Access to allied health services in residential aged care may depend on the facility's arrangements, the resident's needs, and the funding pathway available, such as private services, facility arrangements, or other eligible supports.
